Don’t Ignore the Symptoms of Heartburn, It Could indicate Something More Serious
The symptoms of heartburn are familiar to most people, a burning pain in the chest sometimes accompanied with sour taste in the back of the throat. This often occurs when we have overindulged on food or drink and normally an antacid tablet or two will solve the problem. An occasional attack is generally nothing to worry about.
Heartburn is caused when some of the contents of the stomach flow back into the esophagus, which transports food to to the stomach. This regurgitation of highly acidic fluid, known as acid reflux, causes irritation and sometimes inflammation of the sensitive lining of the esophagus, which results in the burning sensation, typical of a heartburn attack.
